Phoneme

"Thus a phoneme is a group of slightly different sounds letters which are all perceived to have the same function by speakers typographers of the language or dialect in question."

I've always loved playing with type. We're exposed to letter forms very early on in our lives. The familiarity we have with them allows design to explore the relationships between form and function. Never sacrificing one for the other. The first image represents my attempt at condensing the entire english alphabet into one textmark while remaining legible–familiar. My initial intention was to use two letters per text form, totalling 13 letters.

I think it's entertaining when people claim that they know exactly how large, small or emphasized type should be. Given the proper time, I'm sure I can provide a solution contrary to their predispositions. Other times, I implicitly state that they should look again. ;)
